“Sue… come on! Wake up… It is almost breakfast time. You need to wake up.

Mrs May will set up the table soon and we need to be awake and ready for breakfast.” Mrs Jane, the spoon, rolled her eyes and said in frustration to the young rebellious fork.
Sue, the fork, opened one eye and looked at Mrs Jane. She spoke while stretching lazily, “Why do I have to wake up this early… I want to sleep. It is not my fault they want to eat. I am tired.. Leave me alone!” She whined.
Joe, the butter knife, jumped and ran around the drawer excitedly then replied to the young rebellious fork, “you have to wake up because it is breakfast time. They will be up soon and ready to eat.. It is so much fun… We will get to leave the drawer and help the humans eat their food. I love the smell of the toast and its warmth and oh my… how lovely it is to spread butter over the crusty surface of the fresh toast… Come on Sue! You know you love going out and feeding the humans.” Joe gave her an encouraging look before adding in even more enthusiastic voice, “Oh Oh and after that, it is bubble bath time in the sink. Ohhhhhh my! Isn’t that fun?” He squealed with excitement.
Mrs Jane laughed then patted Joe over the head, “You are right of course Joe… It is the best time of day when we get to help the humans. You are such a good young butter Knife”
Sue grunted in disagreement with everything that had been said, “You are a fool… you are just a silly little knife… You think the humans care about any of us. Humph!” she waved her hand dismissively at him.
Before the young butter knife could object, they heard a voice in the kitchen, so Mrs Jane nudged Joe to return to his place in the drawer before the lady of the house, Mrs May, opened the drawer. Joe made his way to his partition as the lady pulled open the drawer.
Mrs May gathered them and passed them to young August, “Take these to the garden and set up the table outside. We will have breakfast outside; the sun is wonderful today.” She passed him two plates too but stopped giving him that look that he knew so well, “Take those too but be careful or the plates might break… If you break any, you will be in trouble young man.” She offered him a warm smile to lessen his worry then ruffled his hair playfully before adding, “I know that my young man is responsible and will be careful.”
A bright smile danced on his young lips as he replied striking the best manly pose, “You can count on me, mother! I am the man for the job… Can I then go play with, woofy.” His posture changed immediately giving her the cutest childish look to go with his pledge knowing how his mother reacted to this one.
She giggled shaking her head at her son knowing far too well what he was trying there before she replied, “Hmm fine but only for few minutes until breakfast is ready… Now go set the table then tell your father that breakfast will be ready in a few.”
He cheered with excitement, “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” He grinned and walked out with a bit of skip in his steps as he wanted to finish setting the table up as quick as possible to go play with his puppy.
He rushed out to the garden hopping and skipping happily thinking about what he planned to do as soon as he was done with his task. In the midst of his excitement, he did not notice as the small fork slipped out of his hand and fell onto the muddy ground.
Sue cried as she fell with a big thud, though a muffled one because of the mud. She grumbled and grunted, “Great! Now what… A mud bath too before breakfast. That is definitely what my day was missing to increase my misery… And they wonder why I hate mornings….”
